My name is Christopher Davis. Most people call me Chris and that’s cool.
I have a beautiful family that consist of my lovely wife and two happy boys. I am a family guy.
I have been playing trumpet for over half of my life. When I first started I didn’t know that music would become an important part of my life. I have met most of my closest friends through studying and performing music at some level. I met my wife this way and for this I am thankful!
As a child I did not realize that I went to the best music schools. As an adult I am thankful that my experiences have helped shape me into the person I am now.
I went to Northern Illinois University and earned a degree in Jazz Studies. This was somehow a good decision and a bad decision at that same time if that is possible. I say that it was a good decision because I had great experiences, learned a lot, and met incredible people. However, paying a university for a performance degree (at least in my situation) was a demonstration of misguided money. For example, if I earned a degree in music education, that would actually be useful.
I have been a full-time professional musician for 9 years. Emphasis on full-time. I have worked with Denis Edwards’ Temptations, Chicago Jazz Philharmonic, opened for the Clarke Sisters all within the last few months. I only list this because, to some people it is important. I am just thankful that some of my dreams have come true and more!
I am the leader of my own group that I call the Chris Davis Jazztet.
However, my favorite thing to do in this business is to share what I know with others. I have been doing this by visiting various schools in my immediate area. But that is not enough for me. When I discovered that I could blog and potentially help more people I created this site.
I hope this is helpful to you! I continuously update this site so check in often, or, better yet . . . Join the email subscriber list. Pass this website on to your friends and acquaintances.
I am doing this because I love to and I hope to motivate you to also do what you love (whatever that may be for you)!
